LASIK is the most common type of vision correction surgery that we perform at Spector Eye Care. LASIK is a method of corneal laser eye surgery that we can use to allow patients to enjoy a quick visual recovery with minimal discomfort after their procedure.
LASIK is a type of eye surgery called “lamellar eye surgery” because it is performed between the layers of the cornea. LASIK is actually a two-step
- The first step is to create a “flap” under which the laser vision correction is to be applied. In the past, creating the “flap” was accomplished using a mechanical instrument called a microkeratome to cut the corneal surface. Although the microkeratome was reliable, in order to provide the utmost in safety and efficacy, Drs. Spector and Parikh creates LASIK flaps with the IntraLase® Femtosecond Laser so that your LASIK Surgery will actually be done as a Bladeless All Laser LASIK procedure.
- The second step is to carefully fold the “flap” over and allow the inner layer of the cornea to be visible so that the laser energy can be applied. The actual application of the Excimer Laser can take from 10-90 seconds depending on the amount of correction that you require.
Dr. Spector and Dr. Parikh’s training, experience and expertise in performing Bladeless All Laser LASIK offers our patients an added sense of confidence in the safety, efficacy and predictability of having LASIK in Connecticut at Spector Eye Care in Norwalk & Stamford.
