What Is LASIK?

LASIK corrects nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. You could be one of the 1.5 million Americans expected to undergo LASIK this year. LASIK is an acronym that stands for Laser Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis. Your Spector Eye Care specialist utilizes a laser to reshape the inner cornea to correct patients’ visions issues.

LASIK is the most common eye surgery performed in the country. It is an FDA approved procedure that’s painless, fast, and effective. It’s the world’s most popular refractive procedure. Millions of patients are appreciating excellent vision and enhanced lifestyle without having to resort to glasses or contacts. Modern All Laser Wavefront Optimized LASIK may even help patients achieve better vision than is possible with glasses or contacts.

In order for the eye to focus light clearly on the retina, the cornea must be of the proper curvature. Very minute quantities of corneal tissue are removed, predictably altering the shape of the cornea and in turn correcting the refractive error.

We use the most advanced techniques available in corrective surgery to achieve optimum vision and help change the way you see the world.

Bladeless LASIK Technology

In the past, the corneal flap was created by a mechanical device, which used a blade (microkeratome). Today, we offer our Spector Eye Care patients ALL LASER LASIK using a Femtosecond Laser to create the corneal flap, thereby adding a higher level of safety and precision to the LASIK procedure. Using this Blade-Free LASIK procedure, the Femtosecond laser delivers over millions of tiny, micron-sized bubbles that gently separate the layers of corneal tissue. This creates a customized corneal flap of the desired thickness, size, orientation, and location. This unparalleled level of control also allows more patients to qualify for LASIK and virtually eliminates many of the complications associated with the past mechanical approach.
