One of the greatest advances in vision correction in recent years has been the introduction of the EVO ICL following FDA approval. This highly advanced implantable lens is designed to treat nearsightedness and astigmatism in patients for whom LASIK or PRK may not be the preferred treatment option.
The FDA approved the EVO ICL in 2022, although the technology has been used internationally for more than 10 years. To date, over 3 million ICLs have been implanted worldwide.
Prior to the EVO ICL, an earlier version of this lens was available. With significant engineering improvements, the new lens has become easier to implant and more predictable in its outcomes, contributing to its growing popularity. In some countries — particularly throughout Asia — this technology has surpassed LASIK and other forms of laser vision correction in popularity.
The EVO ICL is made from a unique biocompatible material called Collamer®. One of the major innovations of the EVO design is the addition of fluid channels that allow natural fluid circulation through the lens, helping to nourish the eye and improve overall safety and performance.
Here at Spector Eye Care, we are excited to be one of the few practices in Connecticut to offer this advanced technology. If you have been told that you are not a good candidate for LASIK or PRK, or if you are simply looking for an alternative vision correction option, EVO ICL may be right for you.
